THE AMERICAN WEEK OF SPORT 2024 GETS UNDER WAY IN LIMA

On 22 September, the Municipality of Chorrillos (Lima), led by its mayor Fernando Velasco, hosted the official launch of 'The American Week of Sport', promoted by ACES and major multilateral bodies such as the OEA, the network of sport ministers of the Americas (CADE), the D+D sport and development cities network led by UNESCO and the Recreational Cycle Paths Network of the Americas, among other partners.

The event had the great support of the president of the IPD, Federico Tong. Already established as an American City of Sport following the unanimous decision of the international organisation ACES and with the backing of the Peruvian Sport Institute (IPD), the district, heir to the martyr José Olaya, will get athletes and their neighbours active with the multi-sport fair 'Actívate con Nosotros', an event that will bring together more than 10,000 people at the Agua Dulce Esplanade and the Morro Solar.

Thus, with the support of the IPD and the international organisation ACES, the municipality of Chorrillos presents the first edition of the multi-sport fair 'Actívate con Nosotros', which has consisted of the staggered practice of different sporting disciplines, aimed at the whole family.

"Chorrillos is a breeding ground for amateur and professional athletes. We are going to give them all the support and the necessary tools. We will put our neighbours in the spotlight of the sporting world", the district mayor announced in his statements. Football and beach volleyball, frontón, athletics, sitting volleyball, basketball, karate, boxing, capoeira, skating. These are some of the competitions and exhibitions that those present will be able to access.

As the finale of the sporting and cultural celebration, the Municipality of Chorrillos coordinated numerous sporting spaces alongside a performance by Tomás Suárez Vértiz and other musical groups.

Beforehand, the preliminary press conference was held at the Olympic stadium at the IPD headquarters with its president Federico Tong, mayor Fernando Velasco, the ACES delegate in the Americas Adriana Sánchez Parés and the general coordinator of ACES in the Americas Gonzalo Cuesta.
