The Third Summit of Latin American Cities for Sport and Development D+D concludes successfully in Chihuahua (Mexico)

As part of the 3rd Summit of Latin American Cities for Sport and Development, the III General Assembly of the D+D Cities Network was held, where the municipality of León was ratified in the presidency of the Sport and Development Cities Network in Latin America for the 2025-2027 period.

This summit is being held in the city of Chihuahua, current American Capital of Sport 2025, and brought together representatives from 28 cities and 10 organisations that contribute experiences and strategies to benefit the population of Latin America through sport and physical activation.

Following the assembly's vote, the vice-presidencies will now be held by the cities of Santiago, Chile, and Belén, Costa Rica, which, together with León, will lead the work over the next two years.

During this Summit, the presidency presented the results achieved within the D+D Cities Network, which began with 16 localities from eight countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay and Mexico; the Network is currently made up of 40 local governments, representing 11 Latin American countries.

At the event, recognitions were presented to the cities taking part in the second edition of April, Month of Physical Activation and Sport, as well as recognitions to the more than 75 cities participating in the American Week of Sport 2025.

ACES, through Gonzalo Cuesta, General Coordinator of ACES in America, presented the results of the American Week of Sport 2024, and SAD 2025 was presented, whose institutional inauguration will take place in Zapopan (Jalisco, MX) on the weekend of 19 to 21 September.

Likewise, ACES, with the endorsement of the cities network, presented its W by ACES programme, focused on female leadership and the role of women in the world of sport, with different lines of action and objectives adaptable to the needs and interests of the cities.

Adriana Sánchez Parés, ACES delegate in America, and Yolanda Sosa presented this programme, which was received with great interest by the cities.

This III Summit in Mexico was attended by Andrés Morales, UNESCO representative in Mexico; Juan José Abdo Fierro, director of the Municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sport of Chihuahua; and Fernando Cáceres, technical secretary of the D+D Network.
